Two Creative Europe-funded films win Oscars
From the 11 Creative Europe-funded films that received nominations for the 88th Academy Awards, two have taken home prizes.
Hungarian Son of Saul (Saul fia) won the award for Best Foreign Language Film. Directed by László Nemes, the war drama has received funding through Creative Europe’s Distribution: Selective scheme. It is released in the UK with this support by Curzon Film World on 1 April 2016.
The prize for Best Documentary went to Amy, directed by Asif Kapadia (Senna, The Warrior). This British documentary, which depicts the life and untimely death of singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, received funding through Creative Europe's Distribution: Automatic scheme for its release in other European countries. Amy was released in the UK on 3 July 2015 by Altitude Films.
