Five Creative Europe films nominated for British Independent Film Awards
From 32 films nominated for the 2016 British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), five have been supported by Creative Europe at various stages of production.
- I, Daniel Blake by Ken Loach leads the way with seven nominations, for: Best Independent Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress, Most Promising Newcomer (x 2). The 2016 Palme d’Or winner has received to date over €1 million from Creative Europe, including for its development, with a grant to Sixteen Films through the Slate funding scheme in 2015, and for its release in 26 countries across Europe, through the Automatic and Selective distribution schemes.
- Couple in a Hole by Tom Geen is nominated for Best Independent Film and Best Actress. It was supported at development and distribution stage.
- Trespass Against Us by Adam Smith vies for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and The Douglas Hickox Award (debut director). Potboiler Productions received Slate funding for the film in 2012.
- Mustang and Toni Erdmann are nominated for Best International Independent Film.
Notes on Blindness by Peter Middleton and James Spinney is also nominated for a number of awards: Best Independent Film, Best Director, Best Documentary, Outstanding Achievement in Craft, The Douglas Hickox Award (debut director). The documentary benefitted from several Creative Europe-funded initiatives including Good Pitch Europe, MeetMarket and Documentary Campus Masterschool.
